Remember who the F you are

I didn’t sleep well Monday night. I woke up at 2:17 a.m. (isn't it funny how we remember the exact times?!) and the last time I saw as I tossed and turned was 4:21 a.m. I spent those hours mulling over situations that are largely not within my control. Some I can influence, but overall I can't impact the outcomes. As I laid in bed I experienced feelings of anger, frustration, anxiety, and helplessness.

.

When I woke back up a little after 6:00 a.m., I thought it would probably be a good idea to take a day off to sleep. Pull the covers over my head, stay in bed all day, and ignore the world. Hope everything was resolved when I decided to adult again the next day. Then I stopped. What happened to me?!

.

What happened to the person who hosted a "Mindfulness with Holly" call for her co-workers during the pandemic? I used to spend hours researching and creating content to empower, inspire, and help people stay positive during a challenging time. I used to spread #positivevibes and energy to everyone I encountered. I spoke to groups of people about building resilience, keeping a positive mindset, and focusing on what you could control. How am I now in such a bad headspace that I don't even want to face the day?

.

And at that moment, I remembered who the F I am.

.

I got out of bed, laced up my sneakers, and went for a run. And with every step that hit the pavement, I felt the anxiety, frustration, and anger dissipate. I felt powerful, strong, back in control. I remembered something that I had seemingly forgotten in the last few months, and I want to share it with you....

.

YOU control your mindset, YOU control your attitude, YOU control your reactions. You can’t control how others treat you, but you CAN control how you respond. You can’t control the outcomes of certain situations, but you CAN control how you move forward. Life isn’t fair, some days suck, and some people suck, but that’s NOT going to have power over me anymore.

.

Find what empowers you. For me, it’s that morning run at sunrise. Blaring music, sun coming out on the horizon reminding me that it is a new day with new possibilities and the chance to make it great.

.

What empowers you?! What makes you feel strong, powerful, in control?! Make it a part of your day, every day. It’s not a set it and forget it. You have to make a conscious choice to choose YOU and your happiness and peace every. single. day.

.

Because it's important. Your mental health is important. YOU are important. Find that thing you need to make you bring your best self to the world, because the world needs more of THAT. And always, remember who the F you are!!

.

Xo,

Holly B.
